Triathlon Kit List

Swim

  • Triathlon Wetsuit (if permitted/required for open water)
  • Swim Cap (often provided by race organisers)
  • Goggles (consider tinted or clear depending on light conditions)
  • Tri Suit and/or Swimwear (if not wearing a wetsuit)
  • Anti-Chafe Cream (e.g., Body Glide) for neck, underarms, and around edges of the wetsuit
  • Ear Plugs (if needed for comfort)
  • Nose Clip (if preferred)

Transition (T1 and T2)

  • Towel (possibly two)
  • Transition Bag (to store all equipment and keep transition area organized)
  • Baby Powder/Talc (for socks and shoes to ease entry and keep feet dry)
  • Anti-Chafe Cream (for bike saddle area and any other spots prone to rubbing)
  • Nutrition (gels, bars, electrolyte tablets as needed, organized for each leg)
  • Water Bottle (to rinse feet after swim if sandy or muddy)

Bike

  • Bike (road, triathlon, or mountain bike, depending on the course)
  • Helmet (mandatory for all races)
  • Cycling Shoes (if using clip-in pedals)
  • Race Belt (to attach your race bib)
  • Sunglasses (for eye protection and improved visibility)
  • Bike Computer (e.g., Garmin, Wahoo) for tracking speed, distance, and cadence)
  • Water Bottles (pre-filled with water or electrolyte drink, mounted on bike)
  • Nutrition Storage (bento box or top tube bag for gels/bars)
  • Flat Repair Kit:
    • Spare Inner Tube(s)
    • Tire Levers
    • CO₂ Inflator or Mini Pump
    • Tubeless repair kit if required
  • Bike Pump (for pre-race tire pressure check. Although many races will provide these)
  • Bike Tools (multi-tool for last-minute adjustments)

Run

  • Running Shoes (comfortable and suited to race distance)
  • Running Socks (consider moisture-wicking for comfort)
  • Hat or Visor (for sun protection)
  • Sunglasses (for sun and wind protection)
  • Additional Nutrition (gels, chews, or salt tablets as needed for longer races)

Race Day Essentials

  • Race Bib (usually provided by organizers; attach to race belt)
  • Timing Chip (typically provided by the race)
  • Safety Pins (if bib is not attached to race belt)
  • ID, Cash, or Card (for emergencies or if required by race rules)
  • Watch or GPS Device (fully charged to track performance)
  • Sunscreen (apply pre-race and reapply as needed)

Post-Race

  • Recovery Drink/Snack (to refuel immediately after finishing)
  • Change of Clothes (comfortable and warm layers)
  • Flip-Flops or Comfortable Shoes (for post-race relaxation)
  • Towel (for drying off after a post-race rinse if available)
  • Warm Jacket or Blanket (if weather is cool)

Optional/Additional Items

  • Ear Plugs or Headphones (for pre-race relaxation if permitted)
  • Massage Gun or Foam Roller (for post-race recovery)
  • Hand Sanitizer and Face Mask (if required or for personal comfort)

Make sure to double-check the race rules and weather conditions to adjust your kit accordingly.
